Congratulations to Sunderland's A Level students

Students across Sunderland are celebrating their A-Level results today (Tuesday 10 August).

For many young people, A-Level results day represents the end of two years of hard work, whilst opening many doors to the next chapter of young people's lives, whether that be continuing in education or training, or entering the world of work.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, exams in the UK didn't take place for the second year. This year, grades have been determined by school teachers through a range of evidence, opposed to the usual assessment process which sees students sit in-person exams in the summer months. With national lockdowns and the need for self-isolation for some having had an impact on students' time in schools throughout the year, grades are based on what students have been taught, not what they've missed, with graded work being based on the topics students have covered rather than the entire syllabus.

Simon Marshall, Director of Education at Together for Children, said: "I'd like to congratulate everyone receiving their A-Level results today and wish them every success in the future, whichever path they choose. The pandemic has impacted schools and education settings enormously over the past 18 months, however, students and school staff have remained extremely dedicated, adapting to their circumstances and overcoming any difficulties they faced to ensure young people in Sunderland can reach their potential."
