Nominee 1: Rebecca Hart

Rebecca Hart
I strongly believe I am suitable for the role of Sunderland's Member of Youth Parliament. I have strong teamwork and leadership skills, which are vital if the views of young people in Sunderland are to be heard and respected at a national level. I am resilient and determined, and I will not give up on ensuring that our generation's voice is heard, no matter the challenges we face. I will listen to feedback and work hard to ensure that every young person's opinion and concern are represented. I am passionate about creating positive change on the issues that matter most to us, from education and mental health to opportunities for young people. Too often, decisions are made about young people without young people being involved in the conversation, so every vote is an opportunity to choose someone who understands the challenges we face and is committed to making a real difference. If elected, I will listen to your ideas, represent them honestly, and work hard to turn your concerns into action. I would greatly appreciate your support in my campaign to become your Member of Youth Parliament, and together we can ensure that young people's voices are heard and respected.

Your voice is a superpower, a weapon, and a shield. Whether the challenges you face are great or small, your voice should never be undermined. That is exactly why I am standing for MYP re-election. Having spent five years on Sunderland Youth Council (currently serving as your Chair) this role isn't just an extracurricular to me; it's my absolute passion. When it comes to representing you, I have always understood the assignment. Locally, I have proven I can deliver real change by leading the State of the City Debate, co-chaired our city-wide Health Summit, and successfully reforming Sunderland's entire city-wide Anti-Bullying Charter Mark to protect students in every school. I have already taken your voices to the national stage and spoke directly in the House of Commons, and I am ready to do it again. Moving forward, my manifesto is dedicated to tackling the heavy modern pressures of social media on our mental health, collaborating directly with the NYA's national Period Dignity Campaign to secure free period products across our public spaces, and launching a major campaign to ensure every single young person has the right to quality, meaningful work experience. I have the proven experience, the relentless drive, and the national platform to make sure Sunderland's youth are listened to at the very top.

Nominee 3: Shaun Hair.

I am standing for re-election as Sunderland's Youth MP because I bring proven experience and strong connections that deliver for young people. I am an experienced Member of Youth Parliament and already regularly work with MPs and councillors, putting me in a strong position to ensure young people's voices are heard at every level. When young people raised concerns about crime and safety, I met with the Police and Crime Commissioner and local officers, walking around Sunderland to discuss these issues first-hand and push for action. I have also spoken in the House of Commons on youth mental health and, through my role on Washington Town Board helping oversee £20 million of government funding, I ensure young people are represented in key decisions .If re-elected, I will continue campaigning on youth mental health and tackling youth unemployment, creating more opportunities for young people, especially those not in education, employment or training, and those who want to work alongside their education. I know young people want to succeed; we just need to make sure the opportunities are here in Sunderland, and I will continue working to make sure that happens. Re-elect me because I know the job, I've proven I can do it, and I am the most experienced candidate ready to deliver.

Nominee 4: Isaac McCabe

I would be privileged to be your Member Of Youth parliament. I know I would be a good representative for you because I have proven time and time again through Sunderland Youth Council that I can work with other people to make Sunderland a better place for you. I believe the developments of our city should be championed by us the young people as we are the next generation. Recently I also attended the have you say north east conference to come up with a regional manifesto for you. On top of this, I also work for the local charity the Key helping young people achieve there goals. Currently, I am working for a campaign on Jobs, Training, and Opportunities voted for you as the biggest issue young people face, this would be my main focus if I was elected. Aside from my work in politics I enjoy watching Sunderland AFC and refereeing local football. I also attend the local air cadets in which I have the opportunity to support the community. I hope I can continue serving the city with this next step.

One vote per student - vote here by 9pm on Friday 3rd July.
