Inset days
Inset Days in Sunderland: A Guide for Parents and Professionals
What are Inset Days?
Inset days, short for in-service training days, focus on the professional development for school staff, including teachers and support staff. These days allow staff to engage in workshops, training, planning and administrative tasks, ensuring high teaching standards and educational outcomes.
Schools are required to be open to students for 190 days a year, except for unexpected events like snow days or heating breakdowns. Academies are not bound by the same rules, although most do adhere to them. Schools in Sunderland each determine their own inset dates.
Notification and Planning
Schools must inform parents about inset days well in advance through newsletters, emails, and school websites. Parents should monitor these communications to plan for any necessary childcare or other arrangements that would need to be put in place.
