Speech and Language UK logo
Early Talk Boost is a fun, engaging program that helps young children develop their essential language and communication skills. It's specially designed by Speech Therapists from Speech and Language UK for children who may be struggling with:

  • Listening and attention
  • Understanding what others say
  • Using new words and longer sentences

Who is it for?

It is primarily designed for children aged 3 to 4 years who need extra support with talking and understanding language, although it can be used with children in reception too. It's aim is to give children who need it, a little boost!

What happens in the program?

  • Small group sessions (usually 6-8 children)
  • Held three times a week, for 9 weeks
  • Led by trained staff
  • Includes games, songs and stories to make the sessions fun and engaging
  • Focuses on developing attention and listening, vocabulary, sentence building, and storytelling skills

How can parents get involved?

  • You'll be informed if your child has been selected for the program
  • You'll be invited to attend a parent workshop to learn more about how to support your child's language at home and to celebrate the progress your child has made during the intervention
  • You'll receive simple tips and activities to try with your child
  • Your child will bring a story book home each week for you to share together

Why is it beneficial?

  • Helps children catch up with their peers in communication skills. Children who take part in the intervention make around 6 months progress.
  • Builds confidence and readiness for school
  • Can lead to improvements in behaviour and social interaction

If you're concerned about your child's talking or listening skills, speak to your child's key worker/teacher or early years setting about whether Early Talk Boost might be suitable.
