Winner: Oliver Hughes
Oliver has shown exceptional dedication to music during one of the most challenging periods of his young life. When his dad was suddenly diagnosed with heart failure, Oliver turned to drumming as his outlet, his structure and his way to cope. Instead of stepping back, he stepped further in - and his musical growth over the past year has been remarkable.
Before this, Oliver had already faced significant setbacks. He experienced bullying in a previous band, which badly knocked his confidence and made him question whether music was still for him. Choosing to try again took courage, and it proved to be a turning point. Since joining The Bunker, Oliver has thrown himself into developing his craft. He practices every day at home, often before and after school, and attends sessions consistently. His commitment has transformed his technique, timing, stamina and confidence. Tutors describe him as focused, hardworking and always willing to push himself. He has become a reliable musician who contributes positively to group sessions and rehearsals.
All of this has happened while he has quietly taken on caring responsibilities at home and managing the stress of his dad's ill health. Through music, Oliver has shown maturity, discipline and passion far beyond his years. His determination to grow as a drummer - even in the hardest moments - makes him truly deserving.
Highly commended: Lucy Duggan
Lucy is an exceptional young performer whose talent, drive and love of music shine through everything she does. From her very first performances, she has shown confidence, musicality and a natural ability to connect with an audience. Her commitment to developing her voice and performance skills goes far beyond expectation.
Over the past year, Lucy has built an impressive performance portfolio. She has delivered multiple solo appearances, performed as part of a trio, and taken on new challenges through Musical Theatre. In the space of just two weeks, Lucy performed at the Sheepfolds event, completed three consecutive nights at the Consilium Cracker, and had several roles in the Christmas Concert. Lucy's versatility - moving seamlessly between soloist, ensemble member and lead vocalist - reflects both her professionalism and her ambition.
Lucy also stepped in to front a Year 11 band when they needed support, showing leadership, reliability and musical maturity. Beyond school she is working towards her LAMDA qualification and rehearsing for a show; successfully balancing demanding commitments with determination and enthusiasm. Her creativity, kindness and encouragement of younger performers make her a role model.
