The search for Sunderland's most inspiring young people is on!

Together for Children is launching the annual search for Sunderland's most inspiring young people as nominations open for the Sunderland Young Achievers Awards 2021.

Now in their 29th year, the Sunderland Young Achievers Awards celebrate the achievements of young people between the ages of 8 and 20 years old, recognising their bravery, talent and positive contributions to their communities.

Oliver Marshall, aged 11, was the overall winner of the 2020 awards as well as the individual winner of the Sport category in the 8-13 years category. Oliver, a trampoline gymnast, said: "I think it's important to celebrate Sunderland's young people who are working really hard to achieve their goals and dreams. Being recognised for how hard we work gives us an extra boost - especially this year as we've all had to learn to adapt so much!"

Open to anyone living in Sunderland, Washington, Houghton and Hetton, award categories include: Music and Performing Arts, Personal Achievement, Young Carer, Young Apprentice, Volunteer, Sport and Service to the Community. Winners and runners-up will be invited to the Awards Ceremony, which will take place in July 2021.

Councillor Louise Farthing, Portfolio Holder for Children's Services at Sunderland City Council, said: "Every year we celebrate Sunderland's incredible Young Achievers, recognising their determination and celebrating their successes. The last year has been difficult for all of us, but despite all the setbacks our children and young people have excelled. I am proud to be a part of it and am looking forward to celebrating their achievements."

If you would like to celebrate the achievement or contribution of a young person, please visit www.togetherforchildren.org.uk/SYA21 to fill in a nomination form. Nominations close at midnight on Friday 23 April.

Jill Colbert, Chief Executive at Together for Children said: "We want to see Sunderland's wonderful young people nominated for their exceptional achievements so please - teachers, carers, parents, family members and loved ones - get your nominations in so we can celebrate their talents and dedication."
