Organisations across the city come together this Easter for the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme

Monday 11 April 2022

Wear Here 4 Spring - a government funded programme delivered locally by Together for Children - is back for the Easter school holidays.

Wear Here 4 Spring provides children, young people and families in Sunderland with an opportunity to get involved in a range of fun, enriching activities centred around cooking, sports and arts and crafts, as well as enjoy a nutritious meal each day.

The Easter programme will run from Monday 11 April to Thursday 21 April and will be delivered by a range of providers across the city.

Our mobile prevention bus, Wear Here 4 You, will also be making its way around the city, offering activities including archery, boxing, boot camp and a climbing wall.

School-aged children and young people in Sunderland could be eligible to attend the programme for free during the Easter holidays, as part of the government's Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme.

Backed by a nationwide investment of around £200 million, the expanded HAF programme ran across all local authority areas during the Easter, Summer and Christmas school holidays in 2021 and now HAF is back for 2022, providing enriching activities and nutritious meals for children and young people.

Jill Colbert, Chief Executive at Together for Children, said: "Following the success of last year's programmes, we're delighted that Wear Here 4 Spring is back again for 2022.

"Providers across the city welcomed over 9,000 children, young people and families over the Easter, Summer and Christmas holidays last year, and we hope to reach even more families this year so that more of Sunderland's youngest residents can enjoy new experiences, spend quality time together and make lasting memories during their school break.

"We know that for some families, the school holidays can be a difficult time when it comes to additional mealtimes, which is why the food element of the programme is so important. Every child who attends a HAF session will be offered a healthy meal to enjoy, to help fuel them for a fun-filled day of activities.

"We're very grateful to all of the partners who've signed up this summer to help us deliver an exciting programme of activities for young people to try out."
