Board Chair of Together for Children
Remuneration £500 per day (excluding VAT) for a time commitment of 72 days per year (6 days per month)
We are seeking an individual of exceptional calibre and profile to Chair the TfC Board.
Together for Children (TfC) is an operationally independent company wholly owned by Sunderland City Council. Now rated Ofsted Outstanding, the Company continues to deliver an ambitious improvement programme to drive better outcomes for children and families in Sunderland. You will lead a unitary board, working to drive strategy, model culture, and seek assurance that the services offered to children and families in Sunderland is of a high standard and meeting need.
As the Chair you will be responsible for leading the Board, developing an effective partnership with the Council and Company Chief Executive and other Executives, whilst setting the tone for excellent and constructive working relationships. You will play an important ambassadorial role both internally, in shaping our culture, behaviours, model of delivery and externally as we seek to continually build strong partnerships with our partners and key stakeholders.
You will also oversee the formulation of the Company strategy and ensure that Executive and Non-Executive Directors receive constructive support and challenge.
The successful candidate will:
· Have senior level experience of children's services, either statutory or non-statutory
· Demonstrate a strong empathy and passion for improving and delivering excellent outcomes for children and young people
· Evidence strong and credible leadership
· Display a strong understanding of assurance, performance and risk reporting mechanisms
· Have excellent relational skills and experience of building relationships with different stakeholders in wide ranging contexts

Non-Executive Director, Together for Children
Remuneration is £12,000 per annum (subject to tax and National Insurance but is non-pensionable) for a 3-year term.
As a Non-Executive Director, you will be expected to commit to 24 days per year, including attendance at 12 scheduled Board meetings together with any further Board or committee meetings that may be arranged and to undertake specific work on behalf of the Board from time to time as required.
The successful candidate will:
· Have experience of senior management in a large and complex organisation
· Have experience and strong professional knowledge of children's services
· Have experience and strong knowledge of corporate governance
· Have sound understanding of corporate management, business processes and human resource regulations/statute
· Have an understanding of complex, industry wide, regulated systems and processes
