Home to School Transport
Travel assistance for eligible young people (5yrs-25yrs), with SEND, can be provided in various options to families and carers:
- Dedicated Transport is procured, monitored, and managed by Together for Children to provide a high level of both standards and safety for the young people transported.
- Independent Travel Training, offering young people specialised support in travelling to and from school, using public transport, walking or cycling.
- Mileage Rate is a payment of 45p a mile made to parent/carers of eligible young people
- Concessionary Travel Passes are issued by Nexus and allow a person of any age to apply, and if granted, the pass allows travel all day, every day. The eligibility criteria considers SEND.
Free Travel Permits
Free Travel Permits can be issued to eligible young people who live within the Sunderland area. Free Travel Permits allow the young person (5yrs-16yrs) to travel to and from school on public transport (Metro/bus/ferry) on any school day, before 7.00pm.
Post-16 Transport (SEND)
Travel assistance for Post 16 learners (16yrs-25yrs) is similar to Home to School Transport (SEND). However, within Post 16 travel, families may be required to make a contribution to travel, if dedicated transport is provided to a learner.
